Banned Book Club

Fight the power and read a book they don’t want you to see. This month’s selection is Light from Uncommon Stars, the story of a cursed violin prodigy whose transgender main character got it pulled from shelves across the country. Get a free copy while supplies last, or dust off that library card and check it out.
Shakespeare’s Soliloquies

“All the world’s a stage.” Or at least it can be with the encyclopedic knowledge of The Bard’s soliloquies you’ll gain in this four-week educational series. Allenspark Book Club

Paul Reitter and Arne Höcker: Translating Marx

Living under late capitalism got you down? Revisit Karl Marx’s second-famous work Capital: Critique of Political Economy. Hear from the guy who literally translated it from its original German, Professor Paul Reitter. CU Associate Professor Arne Höcker lends a hand in what is sure to be an illuminating, if mildly depressing, discussion.
Amy Daws: ‘Bad Boy Era’

Set on Fletcher Mountain in Colorado’s Summit County, romance author Amy Daws’ latest spicy novel features a tattooed Irish baddie, a high-altitude animal rescue center and a rugby training camp. Hear all about it in another Colorado mountain town as Daws drops by the Merc for a speaking-and-book-signing event presented by Boulder Bookstore. Ticket price includes a copy of Bad Boy Era.
Debutiful Debuts

What’s better than a book signing? A book signing and discussion with five authors, for just five bucks. Moderated by literary curator Adam Vitcavage of Debutiful, you’ll hear from Roohi Choudhry (Outside Woman), Kerry Donoghue (Mouth), Shasta Grant (When We Were Feral), Laura Venita Green (Sister Creatures), and Miranda Schmidt (Leafskin).
